How to Use Auxiliary Wheels on a Wrecker

A wrecker’s main function is to clear accident or illegally parked vehicles, and it is sometimes used in rescue operations. In many cases, the tires of the vehicle being towed may be damaged and unable to roll, which is when the auxiliary wheels of the wrecker play a crucial role.

There are two types of auxiliary wheels: Type A and Type B.

  • Type A auxiliary wheels: These use low-speed tires, and the towing speed should not exceed 30 km/h. Exceeding this speed can cause the tires to overheat, leading to damage or accelerated wear.
  • Type B auxiliary wheels: These are lightweight, easy to use, and quick to install, with a low lift range. They are particularly suitable for vehicles with low ground clearance and are ideal for short-distance towing on well-paved roads in urban areas.

Instructions for Using Type A Auxiliary Wheels:

  1. Place the Wheels: Remove the auxiliary wheel set from the wrecker and place it on the ground on both sides of the disabled vehicle’s wheels.
  2. Release Safety Latches: Loosen the safety hook, lower the safety handle, and rotate the auxiliary wheels to the free state.
  3. Adjust Connection Rods: Adjust the two connecting rods to the appropriate length and width to grip the disabled vehicle’s tires. Insert the rod ends into the upright auxiliary wheel connection rod holders.
  4. Lift the Vehicle Wheel: Insert a pry bar into the hole on one end of the auxiliary wheel. Release safety handle 2 and pull safety handle 1 with one hand while using the other hand to pry the wheel upwards. This will rotate the auxiliary wheel and lift the vehicle’s tires. Lowering the vehicle is done using the same method.
  5. Secure the Safety Handles: Once the auxiliary wheel has fully rotated, lock safety handle 1, safety handle 2, and the safety hook. Follow the same steps to secure the other end of the auxiliary wheels.
  6. Repeat on the Other Side: After installing the auxiliary wheels on one side, repeat the same process on the other side.
  7. Secure the Disabled Vehicle: Use safety straps to tightly secure the disabled vehicle’s tires to the auxiliary wheels. Once the auxiliary wheel system is installed, inspect all parts to ensure everything is functioning correctly.

Instructions for Using Type B Auxiliary Wheels:

  1. Position the Wheels: First, identify the tire to be lifted. Place the auxiliary wheels underneath the tire. Pull the two front locking pins upward and rotate them slightly to prevent them from resetting.
  2. Lift Using a Lever: Use a lever to push in the direction of the arrow, rotating the locking pins to secure the axle bracket and prevent it from returning.
  3. Repeat for the Second Wheel: Insert the lever into the other side of the auxiliary wheel and follow the same lifting procedure. Lock the pins to secure the axle bracket.
  4. Repeat on the Other Side: Follow the same procedure to lift the other side of the disabled vehicle. Once both wheels are lifted, proceed with towing preparation.

After completing all the necessary preparations, you can begin towing the disabled vehicle.

By following these steps for Type A and Type B auxiliary wheels, the wrecker can safely and efficiently transport damaged vehicles.
